Finding the right support can begin with a conversation. On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum will bring families and special needs resource organizations together for Sensory Friendly Exploration Day—a welcoming afternoon focused on community connections, shared discovery, and access to resources.
Held from noon to 4 p.m., the event invites individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities, neurodivergent visitors, and their families to meet participating organizations while enjoying activities throughout the Lighthouse grounds.
At the heart of the day is an opportunity to connect. Families can speak directly with representatives from resource organizations, ask questions about their programs, and learn about services and opportunities that may support their needs. Whether a family is beginning to explore available resources or hoping to expand an existing support network, the event offers a comfortable setting to start those conversations.
For participating organizations, the afternoon provides an opportunity to meet the families they serve, introduce their work, and build relationships within the community. Bringing families and organizations together in one place helps make information more approachable and gives visitors a chance to discover resources they may not have known were available.
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum aims to serve as a beacon of resources for the special needs community, creating a gathering place where families can explore, connect, and feel welcome. The event pairs those valuable conversations with opportunities for children and adults to enjoy an afternoon together.
Between visits with resource organizations, families can participate in a modified Lighthouse tour, calming sensory activities, and an adaptive nature trail scavenger hunt. The Sensory-Friendly Fun Zone will offer opportunities for discovery and play, while the Recharge & Refresh Station will provide a place to pause. Visitors can also enjoy a snack beneath the Chickee Hut.
Families are encouraged to explore at their own pace, choose the activities that interest them, and take breaks as needed. This flexible approach allows time for both recreation and meaningful conversations with participating organizations.
To welcome more families, 300 complimentary tickets are available while supplies last. Children under age 6 always receive free admission. Once complimentary tickets are claimed, admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6–17. Online registration is encouraged, and walk-up visitors are welcome.
Sensory Friendly Exploration Day is an invitation to discover the people, programs, and organizations that help support our community. Join us October 18 to make connections, ask questions, and enjoy an afternoon at the Lighthouse with your family.
